Thankfully we are at the tail end of healing Logan’s broken foot.

We did try crutches, but he didn’t much care for them. He was able to get around more quickly in his wheelchair.

At school he had a little fan club that LOVED to push him around and make sure he was able to get everywhere ok.

Even Aubree loved being pushed around in his wheelchair.

He definitely got to a point where he was no longer as careful with his cast, so much so that this big chunk was broken off on the bottom.

Logan now has a little special shoe/boot he has to wear (just until Tuesday), but he is able to do much more now with just the little shoe. He was so excited to come home and ride his scooter again!

We have had so much fun playing with all the new fun stuff Logan got for Christmas!

This was a fun little science experiment with his Star Wars Volcano.

He couldn’t get enough, he kept wanting to do it over and over again!

Christmas morning, I came home from work and quickly freshened up for the day. Logan was a little on the sleepy side and we had to actually wake him up so that we weren’t too late to meet with my side of the family. We always do Christmas gifts between the three of us before we meet up with the rest of the fam.

We first had to make sure that Santa found his milk & cookies

So excited that he got a new Lightening McQueen watch.

Part 2 of Christmas was at Grannie & Grandpa Dave’s house again this year. All the kids hide in a room with the older cousins and wait for the adults to have everything ready for the big reveal!

Christmas Eve

As we have done for a few years now, on Christmas Eve the Harris side of the family comes to our house. We have delicious tamales for dinner and open gifts. I was super bummed to have to work this night, but thanks to some amazing coworkers, I was able to go into work late and come home early.

Our Christmas tree is in the playroom and so everyone had fun playing with Logan’s things while he opened his gifts

Since I was at work, Nick set out the milk and cookies with Logan. Nick said that Logan was in a “mood” and did not want to brush his teeth, after a bit of a battle he was all brushed and ready for bed. This is what they decided to write to Santa:

Polar Express!

We were so excited to head up for the Polar Express train trip again this year. The Shirley’s were able to join us and we knew everyone would have a great time!

We got so excited as we started seeing snow on the drive up!

If you couldn’t tell it was FREEZING!! (And at this point we didn’t yet have Logan’s little wheelchair, so we brought our red wagon since Lo can’t walk on his cast)

So it has happened… our first broken bone

On Tuesday evening, as Nick came home from work Logan got excited and ran to our room and began jumping on the bed. Nick and I were in the kitchen and I asked Logan to stop jumping. A few seconds later, he begins to cry. Not just his normal cry, it had a different tone. I knew he’d really hurt himself. He said he hurt his foot jumping off the bed, when I looked at his foot there was no redness, swelling or obvious signs of something wrong. I held him and tried to calm him (which took much longer than usual). I had to work that night, so once I was sure Logan was calmed down, I left for work.

Around 4am at work I got a message from Nick saying that Logan has woken up 3 times in the middle of the night crying that his foot hurt (which later the pediatrician told us was usually a definite sign of a fracture). When I got home that morning, I took Logan to the pediatrician who had us get an x-ray. Turned out he had fractured one of the bones in his foot.

I circled the bone that he broke. His 3rd metatarsal. It wasn’t fractured all the way through, just partially. On Thursday morning we took our x-rays and went to a podiatrist. The podiatrist wanted him in a cast because he said with a child Logan’s age, and as active as they are, he doesn’t want to risk having the fracture go completely through the bone. Logan wasn’t happy with the idea of a cast at first, but it grew on him.

He now loves that everyone can sign it and he got to pick out his favorite color, red. He will have this cast for 2 weeks, then they will take it off and repeat the x-ray and then place another cast for an additional 2 weeks. After the 4 weeks in a cast, he will need to wear a shoe/boot for a little while also.

After all of this, my next challenge was to find something to help make Logan mobile again. We could not find a knee scooter or crutches his height anywhere. Everyone said they didn’t carry sizes that small. Ugh, what the heck do they expect these kiddos to do?!? I had the pediatrician and the podiatrist helping me look. Finally, the podiatrist called to say they found somewhere that had a wheelchair his size. Whew! It took another day to get the wheelchair so we took our red wagon on our Polar Express trip (pics to come soon).

Logan is absolutely LOVING this wheelchair. He gets around so well in it, and he loves that he is able to have some freedom again. He is such an independent little guy. Tomorrow will be his first day back at school since breaking his foot and he is so excited to show his friends his cast and wheelchair!

Oh, Christmas Tree!

As always, we have fun picking out then decorating our tree as a family. Logan LOVES that we put the tree in his playroom each year too (it just works best that way with the layout of our house)

Here is a pic of our fun Christmas lights this year! I LOVE Christmas lights, I told Nick each year I plan on us doing just a little more, I grew up having a huge light display every year and I want to continue that!!!

Thanksgiving 2011

Nick and I were excited to host Thanksgiving again this year. It is one of our favorite things to do! It is so nice to be able to have all the family together so that nobody has to jump from house to house.

My mother-in-law still takes on the big task of the turkey and comes over early to get it started. Logan was so eager to help with the cooking and he insisted on wearing his chef’s hat the entire time!

My sister is our planner for the day after Thanksgiving shopping that has been our annual tradition for at least 7-8 years now. We LOVE it! This year was a little different since we had to start shopping at 10pm on Thanksgiving night (we ended up getting home at 7:30am). Can’t wait to do it again next year!

We ended the Thanksgiving night playing Left, Right, Center. A fun little dice game that everyone can play together (even the kiddos). LOVE my family!

Aubree had so much fun going house to house asking for “Mo Mo” (more, more) and then politely telling them “Ta You” (Thank You) each time. It was adorable!

A house in my sister’s neighborhood had created a huge haunted house in their front yard. None of the kids were willing to go through it, but my parents and my sister and I went through.

Schnepf Farms Field Trip!

I was so excited to be one of the parents chosen to go on Logan’s first school field trip. We went to Schnepf Farms and Logan was most excited to ride on a real school bus for the first time.

Logan and his buddy Zach, Zach and Logan knew each other prior to the school year starting because they were in the same karate class.

Logan was a little hesitant to go on the roller coaster without me, but since all his friends were he decided he would also.

This is at the end of the ride. He wasn’t too happy. His new way of hiding that he was truly crying is to say “FAKE CRY” after a few minutes, then he just tries to make his friends think it was all pretend.

They all got to pick out a pumpkin to take back to school at the end of the trip.

Back at school they had their 4th grade buddies come and help them carve their pumpkins and the count seeds. Fun day!

Coronado & Disneyland continued

In the “Tron Legacy” portion of California Adventure they had a mini dance club area set up. Logan was in heaven! He LOVES to dance. He was bustin’ a move for a good long while!

****Coronado Beach****

There was a Dr. Seuss exhibit with different statutes outside The Del.

We love the sand here, it has gold speckles in it. Tika researched and found that it was the mineral Mica that is found there.

I’m not sure what to call this, but when you pushed your hand into these areas on the rock, your hand imprint would stay for a while. Also, if you poked it with your finger, it would squirt water back out at you.

The focus of much of the afternoon was finding these clams. Look at the pile that Tika found! (All were thrown back into the ocean though )

After the beach, we went for sushi nearby.

October Break Vacation

We had been counting down the days for Logan’s October Break from school. We had a fun California vacation all planned out. This is only part of the pictures from the trip, the majority of them are on Tika’s camera (hundreds of pics that I need to get a disk of them all from here) but I wanted to blog what I had in the meantime.

Logan was so excited to get to our hotel on Coronado.

This is one of the rare times that I let him jump on a bed, and he takes full advantage of it!

Logan LOVED having his friends Roch and Shyla there during this trip, just one hotel room down. They loved racing back and forth between the rooms

We overlapped by one day with my sister and her family too, so we met them for dinner the first night after they had spend the day at Sea World.

The next morning we were up bright and early to spend the day at Disneyland. This was Logan’s first trip and he LOVED it all! We can’t wait to go back and do it all again. All the kids were great, we ended up staying for around 12 hours!! What a day! (And my camera battery died halfway through the day, so this is just a glimpse…much more to come from Tika’s camera!)

I was so proud of Logan for going on the Haunted House! I think it helped having his friends along, I’m sure he wanted to show them how brave he was!

So, up until we were about 10 people behind the ride, Logan had been excited about Splash Mountain. However, he quickly changed his mind when it was almost our turn. I talked him into it because I told him I would hold him super tight and we could sit next to each other in the back. He obviously still wasn’t very happy about the idea.

But…as you can see by the end of the ride, he LOVED it. He bragged about how only mommy got wet and he didn’t. When I asked him the next day, he said the water slide was his favorite ride of the day!

Logan waved at every character on the floats. All the kids were mesmerized by the parade. Again…I’m sure Tika has much better parade pics to come!

So, by the beach day I had given up on my camera and relied solely on Tika’s (she has a fancy one that takes awesome pics). I took this one with my phone though Logan still has issues with sand and how “itchy” it is, so he wasn’t rolling around playing, but we still had a great time!

Logan loved his Mickey pancakes from Clayton’s Coffee Shop, and we can’t go to Coronado without going to Moo Time Ice Cream!

We bought Logan some glasses resembling Nick’s and he has been so proud of them ever since.

More time spent jumping!

Another love we have is riding the ferry from Coronado over to Sea Port village.

Ha! How funny is this, the woman had a long braided tail that even had a feather in it! Wow!

Not a bad view for our last night’s dinner!

We caught an awesome sunset on the ferry ride back to the Coronado side.

And a trip to Cali would not be complete without stopping to shop at the Viejas outlets! Such a great trip! I <3 my family!

Inspired craft

With some motivation and inspiration from some posts at Pinterest, I decided to make my own make-up brush holder. This was a tall thin vase I had. I used modge-podge and some fun tissue paper I had on the bottom, then wrapped a fleur de lis decoration I had from a recent Gold Canyon Candle purchase and filled the inside with coffee beans. I love it! Can't wait to work on my next project! (P.S. If you don't know about pinterest, check it out! You will be addicted!)

Logan is still enjoying flag football this season (although he has mentioned both soccer and Tball for next season, so we will have to wait and see what he decides later on)

As always, our family is always there supporting each other!

Brady is playing machine pitch baseball this season, he is such a sports fanatic and is doing great this year!

And Miss Rylee is still doing amazing at softball. Her team is pretty intense and has practices, tournaments and games a majority of the week/weekends. She loves it though and it is fun to watch my dad coaching!

I just have to say yet again, how much I love this little boy! He is so much fun and just the sweetest little guy!

Nick’s mom made him one of those recordable books, he absolutely LOVES it. When I asked him to go get ready for bed, I heard my mother-in-law’s voice and crept around the corner and found him listening to the book

Logan loves Angry Birds, when we passed an isle at the store with this stuffed animal I couldn’t resist, he was too excited for me to say no!

One of our favorite things to do at home is play games with Logan. He get’s so into the game and is just ecstatic when he wins. <3

I have a LONG to do list of things I'd like to make and do around the house. This was one of them, I'm pretty happy with the way they turned out on my first attempt. Just some modge podge and cute paper wrapped around the letters. This was a little something I'd wanted in my dining/kitchen area for the last little while, I'm so glad to have it now! I'm slowly trying to go room by room and update my decor. However, much of this will be put on hold until after the holidays, I need to start planning my attention that direction...

9/11 Remembrance Ceremony

Susan’s Surprise 60th!

After a lot of planning, we had my mother-in-law’s surprise 60th birthday party last weekend. Nick and I hosted the party, and it turned out great. Logan was so excited to be able to hide and jump out to scream “surprise”!

Freedom Bear!

This week Logan was Star Student in his classroom. All week there have been some fun things that he gets to do, and one of those is to have Freedom Bear with us at home all week. Freedom Bear is with us almost every time we leave the house

Of course Freedom Bear wanted to ride on Logan’s scooter!

Logan just moved up in karate to a gold belt. Freedom Bear was there to celebrate with us (isn’t it just adorable how excited Logan was, he was so proud, I loved it!)

Slacking!

Wow! I have gone two weeks now without a blog post! I feel like the last two weeks have been SUPER busy with our new routines. Kindergarten has been an adjustment but Logan has done great adapting! He absolutely loves school and his teacher. I am still trying to get used to having a quiet house while he is at school. It’s almost eerie at times! I’ve made myself a pretty good sized “to do” list to occupy my time, and I have yet to make a good dent in it. With Logan in school, I feel like I’ve been a better sleeper after/before working a night shift. I don’t feel as guilty sleeping longer because I know Logan is at school anyway. (This may be why I haven’t accomplished more on my “to do” list). But I do have some goals overall for myself (in no particular order):

*Organization: I’m gutting out all of our closets, pantries, cabinets, etc.
*Leave no trace: I read this in an article in my Parent’s magazine about how to live a more Zen life with kids. It said to teach everyone in the house to leave no trace. After you leave a room, it should look like it did when you entered it. MUCH easier said than done!
*Décor/Craft ideas: since we are renting right now, I am limited in what I can do to our house. So…I’ve started a binder to store all the decorating/craft ideas I want to remember for our next house.
*Planning ahead: Instead of being in a last minute rush and panic, I’m trying to start planning ahead and buying birthday and Christmas gifts way in advance. I feel like it will give me more time to get a more thoughtful gift and it won’t be as big of a financial burden all at once (for Christmas that is). This is the plan…wish me luck!
*Finish blog books: One of the main reasons I blog is to create a blog book at the end of each year. It does take time to make the book the way I’d like it (with organizing the pictures and captions on the pages) so I’m 3 years behind on this and figure I can get caught up while Logan is at school
*Yard Sale: Not now (in this heat anyway) but soon I’d like to have a yard sale after I go through our closets, etc. I know we don’t use half of the stuff we have, and the $$ can go toward my plan of buying gifts in advance.
*Gym time: This has always been an area of mommy guilt for me! I always felt guilty putting Logan in the play areas at the gym, so I would rarely go. Now that he’s in school it’s another area that I can spend more time and will make me feel better overall!
*Reading: I would love to join/start a book club, or even just follow one online that gives great recommendations. I miss reading for pleasure and haven’t found the time to pick it back up since finishing nursing school. (Plus I LOVE my Nook my hubby got me and I definitely need to put it to use more!)

Wow! By typing that list it looks pretty intimidating, hopefully I can stay on track and make progress in all these areas! I think by posting on here, it will make me feel a little more accountable for all these lofty goals I have

Kindergarten time already!?!?

Today was Logan’s first day of kindergarten (hence all the blog posts today…I’m trying to keep myself busy in this quiet house!)
He was so ready, and so very excited to start!

At home before we left this morning, I absolutely LOVE that Logan is at a school with uniforms, he can pick out his own clothes and it will always match!

We found Rylee and Brady before everyone headed their separate ways. I’m so thankful that it worked out for these three to be at the same school! <3

Could he look any more excited!?!?

It took me a little while to really walk out of his room, my eyes got pretty teary but I waited until I was out of his classroom to let the tears fall. I can’t believe how quickly he has grown up! I’m so proud of the sweet boy he has become!

On the second morning of school, Logan was quick to find his buddy Zach on the playground, they were both ready and excited to be back at school that day!

Then a few days later, I get to face this after school:

The fun battles of school begin…first on my agenda, how to bring home an organized backpack!

Meet the teacher night was the Thursday before school started. Logan was so excited to find his classroom and meet a few friends that would be in his class.

Logan has Mrs. Holland this year, and I am so very excited about that! He is attending the school where I used to teach before I went into nursing. I love that I know most of the teachers still, and they know who Logan is as well!

Meet Ellie!

We have a new addition to our household:

Meet cute little Ellie puppy! We got Ellie from a Rescue center, she is a lab/hound/akita mix and we are so excited to have her. She is such a sweet thing and is fitting into our family so well!

And puppy she is...she loves trying to get ahold of Logan's toys!

She hasn't braved jumping into the pool yet, but she loves getting splashed with the water.

This year we had a pirate’s themed birthday party for the boys. As always, it was so much fun and we are so excited so many of our friends and family were able to come and have fun with us!

Logan had mentioned to Rylee and Brady that he wanted them to get him a “jet pack” for his birthday, so Rylee and her friends took hours making this jet pack for Logan, he LOVED it!

We went to Skateland last week for a charity backpack drive with East Valley Sol

I wish they used to have these balancing bars when I was little!

Thanks to Uncle Nate for being brave enough to skate out there holding Logan up. I thought better of it, thinking I would probably end up falling on top of Logan!

We <3 our Xena

We were so sad to have to put down our sweet Xena last weekend. It was one of the hardest decisions we’ve had to make. She was 12 years old, and lived a great life and we didn’t want her to end up in pain. (She started falling quite frequently at home, had difficulty breathing and had a rough time getting up off the floor.)

This was Xena’s signature approach, lightly placing her head on your lap to try to get some attention.

Nick and I inherited our two labs (Xena from my parents and Klutch from my sister). We had the dogs before we had Logan.

We knew the dogs would be great with kids because Rylee got to break them in and tested their patience when she was young.

Xena was more lovey and let you snuggle with her much more than Klutch does.

Then came Logan, and he loved to roll around and play with Xena, she was always so gentle with him and took all that Logan could dish out (pulling her ears, pinching, etc.)

The dogs love going camping with us, they especially love fetching and would run until they couldn’t get up off the ground!

Logan actually surprised us and understood and accepted Xena’s passing very well which helped Nick and my coping too! It was definitely a very sad time, but we know it was the right decision and we are all at peace with it.

Karate Day 1

Logan had wanted to do Karate for a little while now. I found a place near our house that we stopped into this afternoon. They said he could come back for a trial class today at 6:30. Let me say, he was SO excited and absolutely loved the class!

He had the "yes ma'ams" down quickly, and I just loved seeing him do the little bows for respect :) Can't wait to watch him again at his next class!

Birthdays Galore!

Logan and Nick’s birthday are only 2 days apart. So this week/weekend was full of celebrations

Logan and I took Daddy balloons to his work, then took him out for lunch at Cantina Loredo.

Logan politely told our waitress that it was Nick’s birthday, so she brought him this yummy dessert. Then we went shopping at San Tan and got Nick a few things

Yes, Logan is in his undies for these…so I only posted the ones that were mostly from the waist up He was so excited that it was his birthday when he woke up on Friday that he just couldn’t get dressed

We had a fun family day playing his new Wii, swimming, baking and having his requested McDonald’s dinner.

Logan’s birthday weekend continued the next night when Logan’s buddy Talan spent the night.

They had so much fun climbing/sliding/running and playing at Makutu’s Island.

Nick decided he wanted to join in on the fun playing at Makutu’s, but he didn’t bring any socks. He had to purchase some of these fabulous purple and green socks

Logan & Nick’s birthdays came to a close last night when we had Nick’s family over for BBQ and swimming.

Yes, Logan ended up with a belly flop on the pic above, but he loves being thrown around in the pool by the guys!

Circus fun!

Each year, we somehow miss the circus when it comes to town. I was so excited that this year we finally caught it! We went last night, and Logan loved it! We had great seats and it was a fun family night out

We went to Alice Cooperstown for dinner first, Logan loved that it was a Rock-and-Roll restaurant

I love my cute little family!!!

Celebrations!

Last week/weekend we had a celebration for Max’s birthday’s (his real birthday and his 1-yr from his BMT) and it was also part house-warming party. So much to celebrate! We had smaller family celebration during the week

Then a big celebration over the weekend!

We had fun cooling off in the pool for the first half of the party while the kiddos were still there

Then all the kiddos left, and the adults had their fun.

Max’s new house, I don’t have the before pics on here but the house looks amazing! The renovation they did turned out great!!

California, Part 2

Day 3 started with a fun trip to the San Diego Zoo. I’m not sure it was Nick or Logan that was more excited to go. We started out with a 35 minute tour on a double decker bus. Logan loved sitting up on the top level!

Logan really isn’t as unhappy as he looks here, this is his cheese face when he’s just trying to satisfy mom but is distracted by something else

This sloth bear was jumping around all over the place!

Then we rode the sky trak across the zoo. Logan loved it!

My poor guy fell while he was trying to walk on the sidewalk curb, got a little scratch and he wasn’t happy about it

This part was so cute, they have this dog in with the cheetah! On the tour, they said that the dog ends up dominating and keeps the cheetah in line, so crazy!

We found this johnny jumper area, and Logan really wanted to jump, he had a ball!

Nick was most excited to see the Kamoto Dragon. It ended up being our last stop of the zoo, but Nick was just as excited!

He was definitely wiped out after the zoo! He slept for almost 3 hours, luckily we had a late dinner reservation that night!

Nick and I had time to watch a movie and have some appetizers outside before Logan joined us again

Isn’t this picture just great! Nick and Logan were playing while we waited for our dinner reservation and Nick got that shot of Logan above.

Dinner our last night was at Jake’s Del Mar, right on the water! Logan was on the lookout for dolphins for most of the evening.

Overall, a PERFECT family vacation, I loved every minute of it with my boys! Can’t wait for the next one!
